Laguna Phuket Golf Club won 2003 Top Ten awards for Best Golf Resort in Asia, Best Clubhouse in Asia, and Best Golf Courses in Thailand by readers of Asian Golf Monthly magazine, and a host venue for Asian Tour's Singha Thailand Open 2009. Formerly known as Banyan Tree Golf Club, Laguna Phuket Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 resort course, measuring 6,654 yards from the back tees and 5,464 yards from the front tees, which challenges golfing enthusiasts of all abilities. The course features a wealth of scenic lagoons, coconut groves and undulating fairways, set against the dramatic backdrop of the surrounding mountains and Andaman Sea.
The recent renovation and redesign works have transformed Laguna Phuket Golf Club into a world class golf resort establishment. The improvements include rebuilt and reshaped greens, resulting in truer and faster rolls. New green surrounds have also made the short game play more imaginative and interesting. This relatively short dogleg left par-4 hole measures a challenging 373 yards from the back tee, or a comfortable 342 yards from the middle tee, or 316 yards from the front tee. To comfortably reach the green in regulation, an accurate tee shot positioned on fairway and passed dogleg left is a must.
The follow up second shot to an island green is challenging for seasoned golfers and can be nerve wrecking for novice golfers. This short-medium iron approach shot needs utmost precision as it must be played onto a small island green that slopes off to the surrounding water.
The recently renovated island green is perfectly maintained, resulting in a truer and faster roll, and made more difficult by two sand bunkers positioned on the front right hand side and at the back of the already small green.
If you are fortunate to land your approach shot safely in the middle of the green, you may walk away happy with a birdie or a par, or be content with a bogey if your approach shot got wet. Whatever the outcome, take your time on this scenic hole and appreciate the breathtaking view of an imaginative landscaping and an attractive clubhouse in the background.
